FRIDAY, JUNE 17th
The Arts Project of Cherry Grove and Fire Island Artist Residency Present An Evening with Artists Lola Flash and Keioui Keijaun Thomas.

Through art we are able to explore ourselves and learn more about the world around us. Images inspire emotions, movement leads to mindfulness, Creation begets creation. Voices that can elevate us all and visuals that can ignite understanding. Art is uplifting and transformative.

We are proud to welcome these two talented artists presenting their work at the Cherry grove Community House and Theater.

Working at the forefront of genderqueer visual politics for more than three decades, photographer Lola Flash’s work challenges stereotypes and gender, sexual, and racial preconceptions. They will be presenting images from their various bodies of work and discussing their portraits, process and experience being an artist who's practice is firmly rooted in social justice advocacy around sexual, racial, and cultural difference.

We are privileged to be presenting the New York Premiere of Keioui Keijaun Thomas' new film trilogy 'Come Hell or High Femmes' and a live performance by the artist. Her world is lush and verdant; the artist, bathed in a sky blue dress of tulle and golden skin, wanders across babbling brooks, oceans and atop hills of fertile land. Thomas imagines a time where the dolls — a word that, loosely, means a trans woman so beautiful and perfect that she can no longer be considered real — have survived a mass extinction.

SUNDAY, JUNE 19th

Sunday afternoon we will be organzing at the Community House to participate in the Babec Solidarity March.

After the march we invite everyone to the Community House to watch a special screening of the film The 13th. A powerful look into America's policing of African Americans since the abolishment of slavery, it is a tremendously important education in understanding the true meaning and need for the BLM movement. Only by changing our perspectives can we begin to see things differently.
